Talkative women, resigned Mori.

Former president of the Tokyo Olympic organizing committee, Mr. Mori, resigned last week after his comments that women talk too much during meetings.
Although Japanese society is yet too far away from sexual equality, most of people are trying to approve women’s rights and positions in the society. Under such circumstance Mr. Mori’s comment and attitude at his apology irritated our sensibility. His comment may have been accepted domestically during his duty as a prime minister in 2000-2001.

Mindsets of Japanese are more or less governed by old family system, which exhort elder boy should inherit the family. Under such out of date family system, men are more respected over women.
Please note however, this kind of value is being obsolete especially among younger generations.

You may not want to hear but there was one thing I was agree with Mr. Mori’s statement. That is, women tend to be more talkative, I mean not during meetings but at group lunch or other situations.
There is an interesting character “姦”, which consists of three “女”s. “女” means a woman / a female, and three women “姦” means noisy with speaking voices. The characters were invented in ancient China, perhaps when men governed the society.
One thing I need to excuse about the letter “姦”. Women are generally more noisy than men because their voice tones are higher than men’s. I almost forgot to mention that the character “姦” is not commonly used recently any more.

By the way, surname of the resigned president of the committee, Mori, is written as “森”, which literally means a forest. The character consists of three “木”s. You must be smart enough to guess, the character “木” means a tree.
